AMAZING SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS-1ST-6TH GRADES
Make silly putty and discover what it really is! Make a balloon rocket! You will participate in fun, hands-on experiments that explain science in everyday life. Experiment with ingredients that form chemical reactions, test the properties of magnets, make a mini ecosystem and much more! You will have lots of opportunity to be a part of the process in the amazing science experiments class!
SPANISH CLASS! CLASE DE ESPANOL-1ST-6TH GRADES
Play Spanish Bingo! Play some games, sing songs in Spanish and learn interesting things about the Spanish-speaking cultures! You will begin with the Spanish alphabet and learn how to pronounce letters and words properly. You will also learn basic vocabulary, common phrases and numbers and will participate in basic conversation.
CHESS PLAY AND STRATEGY-K-6TH GRADES
Have fun playing chess with your friends!! Learn chess strategies and openings! Solve chess diagrams and puzzles. First learn the basic rules of chess: piece movement, check and checkmate and special rules. You will have plenty of time to play chess, and emphasis will be on making the game fun. On the last day, play in a tournament and win prizes!! We think you will be excited about the game, and you will be encouraged to play with friends and family outside of class, too!
BABYSITTER TRAINING COURSE-5TH-6TH GRADES
Learn to be an expert babysitter! You will know how to make a resume to present to a potential employer along with your babysitting course certificate. You will learn babysitting tips, such as what to do in an emergency, good games to play, what is and isn't safe, etc. You will also learn basic first aid, such as how to hold pressure points, read vital signs, and much more. In addition, you will learn infant care, such as changing diapers, feeding, and more. Note: This is not a CPR certification course.
EXPLORATIONS WITH LEGO BUILDING K-6TH GRADES
Design, invent and build! Be creative! Work in teams to share your ideas and designs and to construct your projects. Each week there will be a new theme for your team to create, from structures to vehicles, to creatures and more! This is a great class to learn more about science, math and engineering! (Lego pieces are supplied in class but do not go home with students).
SECRET AGENT TRAINING-1ST-6TH GRADES
As you go through your training to be a secret agent, you will write clues, make secret maps, and put on various disguises. Learn to write and decipher secret codes, speak in accents, and much more! Using your agent training technique, the class will create a Scavenger Hunt for the last day of class.
MONEY GAMES-1ST-6TH GRADES
Presto-Change-o! Payday! Allowance Game! These are just some of the games you will play as you learn to make change and apply what you learn in class. This class will give you a head start in life by making you money wise. You will find out how to use a kid’s budget to help you save your money for something you would like to buy. Get job ideas for kids, write checks and much more! It will be fun playing money games with your friends to reinforce what you are learning!
INCREDIBLE EDIBLE GEOGRAPHY-K-6TH GRADES
Wouldn’t it be fun to make a volcano, learn all about volcanoes and then eat it? Make an island out of tortillas topped with colored edible terrain and surrounded with gummy fish!
Learn about products and why spices were important to explorers as you make cinnamon toast. You will learn basic geography fundamentals in a fun hands-on way by using recipes that illustrate the concepts you are learning, such as Ocean Layers Dessert or Pie Crust Caves. You will be involved in map investigations and activities as you learn about maps, globes, continents and earth’s layers as well as the earth’s terrain, climate, etc.
AROUND THE WORLD IN 8 DAYS-K-6th GRADES
Learn about our world and what's in it as you take an imaginary trip to different places in the world! Map the trip that is planned, get your passports stamped and off you will go to learn about the most important things in each country's culture that you visit. In some countries you will learn about the great artists and architecture that is woven in its culture, or it may be the music or literature, and others it is what they grow or trade. This class is full of hands-on activities that explore geography and cultures. You will know how to find these countries and their continents on a map and globe, paint like Monet, make lots of crafts and much, much more!
MYSTERY ADVENTURES-3RD-6TH GRADES
Children from 3rd-6th grades will have fun solving exciting mysteries. They are provided a scenario of a "crime." Then clues and suspects are added, and children determine "whodunit." They may catch a cookie thief, solve the case of the sabotaged roller coaster, determine who stole the countess' tiara from the hotel safe or solve the murder of a Hollywood movie producer, and much more! This class teaches deductive reasoning, problem solving and analytical thinking, and it's fun at the same time!
FUN WITH AMERICAN GIRL BOOKS—2ND-4TH GRADES
Have fun with your friends learning about a different American Girl character each week. You will enjoy playing games and acting out short scenes from these historical novels. Participate in activities and crafts just for girls. On the last day of class, you and your favorite American Girl doll are invited to a tea at school.
FUN WITH MY NAME IS AMERICA BOOK CLUB—3RD-6TH GRADES
Have fun with your friends in a book club! You will start with an exciting book called, The Journal of Sean Sullivan: A Transcontinental Railroad Worker. Make the book come alive as you participate in activities, and crafts that relate to the time period of the book. You will enjoy playing games, acting out short scenes and discussing your favorite episodes. You will continue with other wonderful historical novels in the My Name is America Series.
