CREATIVE YOUNG AUTHOR'S CLUB - 4th-6th grades

participate in the show, and much more! Learn to use the magic of words, not just by writing but also by the visual and performing arts!
SECRET AGENT TRAINING-1st-6th grades
As you go through your training to be a secret agent, you will write clues, make secret maps, and put on various disguises. Learn to
write and decipher secret codes, speak in accents, and much more! Using your agent training technique, the class will create a Scavenger
Hunt for the last day of class.
MONEY CLASS FOR KIDS!- 3rd-6th Grade
This class will give your children a head start in life by teaching them to be money wise. They will find out how to use a budget to help them save their money, how to make goals and how to reach those goals. Using actual applications, they will learn to write a check and balance a checkbook, get job ideas for kids, be a wise consumer and much more. If your children are curious about how kids can invest in the Stock Market, how an ATM works, and how to read the financial pages, then have them come to the Money Class for Kids to find out. It will be fun playing money games with their friends to reinforce what they are learning!
SPANISH CLASS! CLASE DE ESPANOL-1ST-6TH GRADES
In Spanish class, students will begin with the Spanish alphabet and learn how to pronounce letters and words properly. They will also learn basic vocabulary, common phrases and numbers and will participate in basic conversation. To make it fun, they will play some games, sing songs in Spanish and learn interesting things about the Spanish culture.
AMAZING SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS-1ST-6TH GRADES
Students will participate in fun, hands-on experiments that explain science in every day life. A variety of science topics will be covered. They may make things like invisible ink, their very own rainbow or learn how magnets work. If they are curious about why leaves are green, how light bulbs work or why they get sick, they can come to science class to discover the answers to questions like these. Children may study about insects, chemical reactions or outer space. Science will come alive and will be remembered more readily. At the end of the session, children will bring home their own lab book with their observations and conclusions.
INCREDIBLE EDIBLE GEOGRAPHY-K-6TH GRADES
Children will learn basic geography fundamentals in a fun hands-on way by using recipes that illustrate the concepts they are learning. They may make an Ocean Layers Dessert, Chunky Mountain Mix, Slices of Healthy Earth, Pie Crust Caves, Vegetable Trees, Great Plains Mix, and much more. Children will be involved in map investigations and activities as they learn the fundamentals of maps, globes, continents and earth's layers as well as the earth's terrain's: caves, forests, grasslands, icebergs, mountains, swamps, volcanoes, etc. Students will learn to map their bedroom, school, or neighborhood, map out a trip, locate various places and features on their city map, globe and much more. They will read many types of maps and make a map hat. Children will play games and do experiments that simulate the earth's terrains and features. This class is taught by a talented teacher who worked for Thomas Brothers Maps Educational Foundation for 13 years. While there, she created "Geography is Every where" curriculum and quarterly newsletters, presented activities and ideas at In-service workshops for teachers and involved schools in activities to learn more about their communities.
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS-K-6th GRADES
Children will learn about our world and what's in it. They will take an imaginary trip to different places in the world. They will map the trip that is planned, get their passports stamped and off they will go to learn about the most important things in each country's culture that they visit. In some countries they will learn about the great artists and architecture that is woven in its culture, or it may be the music or literature, and others it is what they grow or trade. This class is full of hands-on activities that explore geography and cultures. Children will know how to find these countries and their continents on a map and globe, paint like Monet, make a map hat and much, much more. This class is taught by the same teacher above (Incredible Edible Geography).
MYSTERY ADVENTURES-3RD-6TH GRADES
Children from 3rd-6th grades will have fun solving exciting mysteries. They are provided a scenario of a "crime." Then clues and suspects are added, and children determine "whodunit." They may catch a cookie thief, solve the case of the sabotaged roller coaster, determine who stole the countess' tiara from the hotel safe or solve the murder of a Hollywood movie producer, and much more! This class teaches deductive reasoning, problem solving and analytical thinking, and it's fun at the same time!
CHESS PLAY AND STRATEGY-K-6TH GRADES
Children will learn to play chess and have fun at the same time! They will first learn the basic rules of chess: piece movement, check and checkmate and special rules. They will have plenty of time to play chess, and emphasis will be on making the game fun. Chess strategies and openings will be taught, as well as chess diagrams and puzzles will be given to solve. We think children will be excited about the game, and they will be encouraged to play with friends and family outside of class, too!
BABYSITTER TRAINING COURSE-5TH-6TH GRADES
Students will learn to be an expert babysitter! They will know how to make a resume to present to a potential employer along with their babysitting course certificate. They will learn babysitting tips, such as what to do in an emergency, good games to play, what is and isn't safe, etc. They will also learn basic first aid, such as how to hold pressure points, read vital signs, give mouth to mouth resuscitation and more. In addition, they will learn infant care, such as changing diapers, feeding, and more.
RED CROSS CRITTER CLAN TEACHES K-4TH GRADERS FIRST AID
Using the American Red Cross's First Aid for Children Today, the FACT Critter Clan leads children through health promotion and injury prevention activities. It is age appropriate for grades K-3rd graders, and teaches safety in a non-threatening way. Topics include hygiene and health habits, first aid, personal safety, injury prevention and more. Examples of some of the things they will learn are what to do when someone is bleeding, choking, bitten or stung; staying stranger safe, fire safety, poisons, walking safely and much, much more.
EXPLORATIONS WITH LEGOS-K-6th GRADES
Lego building stimulates children's creativity, problem solving and team working skills. There are tasks for every age level, from building structures, communities and towns to science exploration and experimentation with simple machines and mechanisms. Children may experiment with the functions of wheels and axles, gears, levers or pulleys. They may investigate the effects of friction and gravity on speed and explore sources of energy. When making structures and communities, we incorporate geography explorations and activities to enhance learning. Children will map the community they build, learn to read their own community map and much more.
SPRING GARDENING 101-K-6TH GRADES
Spring is a wonderful time to work in the garden. Children will enjoy planting theme gardens such as a Pizza Patch, Snacking and Sipping Garden, or Container Garden. They will learn how to follow directions on a seed packet, how to use garden tools, learn about composting and amending the soil, arrange a few flowers in a vase, grow from a cutting, learn about harmful and beneficial insects and more. Students will be ready to add a little life to their gardens at home.
